Tragedy as body of popular footballer found in woodland

The body of a popular accountant and footballer who went missing from home was found in woodland in Stockport, an inquest has heard.

Charlie Johnson, 26, who was born in Manchester and lived in Cheadle Hulme, was reported missing by his family on Thursday, September 21 this year.

A 'high-risk missing person investigation' was commenced, Senior Coroner Alison Mutch said as she opened an inquest into his death at Stockport Coroner's Court on Wednesday (October 11). Mr Johnson was an accountant by profession and was single, the hearing was told. An inquest was 'clearly required' Ms Mutch said, with a full hearing pencilled in for April 8 next year.
