A beach on a stunning Scottish island has been named the third best in the world by top travel experts. The team at Condé Nast Traveller put together a list of the 34 best beaches worldwide, with Breckon on the Isle of Yell in the Shetland archipelago coming in third.
The only spots on the globe that beat it were Palm Cove Beach in Australia and Honopu Beach in Hawaii. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, the idyllic Yell beach is nestled between two bright green fields, which gives it protection from the south-westerly winds that often sweep through the area.
It is also famed for its stunning turquoise-hued water.Other highlights of Breckon Beach are the remnants of Viking and pre-Viking settlements that can be found around the beach.
A number of amazing discoveries have been made in the area over the years, including pottery, combs made from bone, and even Roman coins. However, according to Condé Nast Traveller, visitors should be prepared for very chilly waters if they are brave enough to dip their toe in.
