Joe Hugill was left in the cold at Wigan, Habeeb Ogunneye warmed the bench for nine games, Toby Collyer was an unused substitute on eight occasions and Harry Amass kicked his heels on seven matchdays.
In the end, Ethan Wheatley had the privilege of becoming Manchester United's 250th academy graduate. Wheatley had been on the bench for only two games before he was summoned to replace Rasmus Hojlund for a late cameo against Sheffield United.
