'I flew with Ryanair and saw so many people being forced to pay £46 to get on the plane'

For many jetting off on holiday this summer, Ryanair is a budget-friendly option. With cheap flights on offer from Manchester Airport, as well as airports in Liverpool, Birmingham and London, it's a go-to for many, But while the fare might be cheap, it can quickly become more expensive than flying with more premium airlines like TUI and BA if you're not careful.

Recently, Emily Chaplin, a reporter at our sister site Birmingham Live hopped on a Ryanair flight, and discovered just that.

While she didn't fall foul of the extra charges herself, she saw many who did. And they could have easily been avoided by paying as little as £6 extra, according to Emily. It seemed that the travel Gods were on our side and it was going to be smooth sailing to sunny Tenerife - or so we thought. Our gate number had only just popped on the board, but we left the Wetherspoons straight away to pick up some sun cream and a drink from the Boots en route.
