Parts of Greece are experiencing major wildfires as blazes continue to wreak havoc across the country, with locals and those visiting the areas of danger issued a warning.

A series of ferocious wildfires have triggered mass evacuations from areas including tourist hotspots, with firefighters battling to douse the flames as they rage through northeastern Greece, close to Athens.

The fires have been sparked by an intense heat of up to 41C, with the temperatures remaining high across mainland Greece. Gale force winds have created a dangerous environment, causing the blaze to spread.

The wildfires have tragically caused two deaths and destroyed many homes across the popular holiday spots. A dangerous situation is ongoing in the northeast of the country near the port city of Alexandroupolis, as well as the island of Evia and Kynthos.
