A new “supervillage” between Plean and Bannockburn has officially been given the final go-ahead at a meeting this week - almost 20 years after first being mooted. The Durieshill development has been an ongoing saga in local development circles since the proposals for a new 3,000 home development on the site was first dreamt up in 2004.Since then, the plans have been involved in long wranglings between the developers and housing chiefs - but a major step forward was taken last week when delays over drawing up a ‘section 75’ legal agreement were finally resolved. That paved the way for the development to finally be given the green light at a meeting of Stirling Council’s planning and regulation panel on Tuesday. The delays over the legal agreement had prompted Springfield Properties chairman Sandy Adam to pose outside the council’s Viewforth HQ with a model of a snail to protest the slow-moving nature of the plans. The 593-acre site will now be host to more than 3,000 new homes - with a quarter of this set to be dedicated to affordable housing.Alongside the properties, various amenities will also be introduced at Durieshill including new schools, local shops and business park, civic areas, new playparks, community woodland and active travel routes to Stirling and Plean. It is expected that construction will last 30 years, with around 130 new jobs created during the construction phase and a further 770 when the Durieshill development is complete.Stirling Council leader, Cllr Chris Kane, said: “This is the largest detailed planning application for housing to ever to be approved in Scotland.
