The Government has today confirmed plans for Eton College to launch a new sixth form in Oldham - and announced two new free schools will also open in Manchester.
They are among 15 new free schools given the go-ahead in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country. Eton first floated the plans in March last year in a move designed to open up Oxbridge and other elite universities to the town's students.
The £44,000-a-year private school in Berkshire, where Boris Johnson and Princes William and Harry studied, has partnered with Lancashire-based Star Academies for the scheme.
