King Charles has been criticised by a royal expert who claims he should have undertaken a public “act of compassion” towards Prince Harry following the release of his bombshell memoir, Spare. The Duke of Sussex' controversial autobiography came out in January of this year where he spoke very candidly about his life as a royal and made a number of shocking accusations about his family members. However, throughout the messy aftermath of the memoir, the Firm remained silent and did not publicly comment on the book as they instead stuck to their royal motto of "never complain, never explain".However, historian and royal author Dr Tessa Dunlop said she would have preferred to have seen a more “public” act of “forgiveness” from the King towards his son, the Express reports.Speaking on the To Di For Daily podcast, Dr Dunlop argued that Harry does not “bring down his dear Papa”, in Spare but instead paints him as sympathetic which is a trait she would like to see the monarch express publicly again. The author of the 2022 book Elizabeth & Philip said: “I feel Charles, I kind of know this actually, he’s a kind man… We all have failings, even Harry in his book doesn't really ever bring down his dear Papa.”She claims that he instead describes him as an albeit “inattentive” father but one who does not “undercut his son” and instead “shows sympathy”.

For example, when Harry recalls being told about his mother's tragic death, he wrote: “He wasn’t great at showing emotions under normal circumstances, how could he be expected to show them in such a crisis?“But his hand did fall once more on my knee and he said: It’s going to be OK.
