Four firefighters rushed to hospital after horror smash on Highland road

Five Scots residents have been rushed to hospital after a horror smash between a fire engine and a van on a Highland road.The nightmare incident took place on the A890 at Attadale House, Strathcarron at around 7.40pm on Sunday when a fire engine was racing to an animal rescue incident in Dunvegan.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were travelling “under blue light conditions”.Three appliances, a specialist resource, and three ambulances were sent to the scene of the crash and the road was closed for several hours, reports the Scottish Daily Express.Five people, including four firefighters and the driver of the van, were taken to Raigmore Hospital.

The van driver suffered minor injuries and two firefighters were later discharged. Two remain in hospital at this time. Area Commander Michael Humphreys, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for Highlands said the staff are being fully supported.

He said: “We can confirm that on Sunday, May 26 at around 7.41pm, one of our fire appliances was involved in a road traffic collision on the A890, at Mammit Hill, Stromferry Road in Strathcarron.
