Aberdeen's Highland Games have been cancelled on Sunday morning due to unexpected heavy rain overnight. The popular event was due to return to Hazlehead Park on Sunday, June 16, with around 10,000 people due to attend.Spectators were expected to enjoy a range of events from Pipe Band competitions and Tug o' War to Highland Dancing and more.
The Highland Games is a day full of fun for all the family; from traditional Highland Games events, quality trade and charity stalls, stage entertainment from professional performers as well as local community groups and a range of activities that can be enjoyed by all ages.However, the unexpected downpour of rain throughout the night has made the event site and car park unsafe for those planning to attend today's event.
Those who purchased tickets will be due refunds over the course of next week.Aberdeen City Council confirmed: "Unfortunately, due to heavier than forecast rain overnight making the event site and car park unsafe, the Highland Games at Hazlehead Park, due to take place today, has been cancelled.
Refunds will be issued via Eventbrite during the next week.Those planning to attend the event were left disappointed, taking to social media to share their frustration.
