The tragic death of a five-month-old baby hours before his mum died will remain a mystery. An inquest has been heard into the deaths of little Kevin Degutis and his mum, Viktorija Mardosiene.
Kevin was found unresponsive by Viktorija at their home in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. He was rushed to Royal Stoke Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Hours later, Viktorija collapsed and died after being taken to Harplands Hospital, in Stoke. The inquest heard social services had no concerns for the welfare of little Kevin before his death, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports. She added: "She was amazing, she loved her kids so much. "Life without her is hard. She was my best friend, and I could talk to her about everything." The inquest heard that a social services case file had been closed a few days before their deaths, on August 9 last year.
