A group have been jailed after a man was stabbed to death as he sat drinking a takeaway coffee in Piccadilly Basin. Ahmed Alsharan was stabbed in the heart and pushed into a canal amid the city centre brawl.

The 33-year-old had been drinking coffee with his brother and a friend beside the Rochdale Canal near Dale Street on August 16 last year when they were approached by Mohammed Al-Enizi Hameed.

He asked: "Who are you?" Al-Enizi Hameed then issued a 'call to arms' to a group nearby, shouting: "Bring the knife - let's kill them."
