Family of Brianna Ghey 'overwhelmed by support' as candlelit vigils held across the country following teen's death

The family of teenager Brianna Ghey, who was found stabbed in a park, are 'overwhelmed by support and compassion' from across the country, police said.

The 16-year-old transgender girl was found on a path in Linear Park in Culcheth, Cheshire, on Saturday (February 11) and pronounced dead at the scene.

A girl from Warrington and a boy from Leigh, both aged 15, have been charged with her murder. A provisional trial date has been set for July 10 at Liverpool Crown Court.

Following Brianna's death, candlelit vigils to remember the teenager were organised at various places across the country. In Manchester, huge crowds attended a memorial at Sackville Gardens - a place where members of the LGBTQ+ community have celebrated and grieved together over the years - on Wednesday night (February 15).
