Audiences had to wait eight years between the first Bad Boys and Bad Boys II, and another 17 years for the threequel, Bad Boys for Life, which thanks to filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah became the highest grossing installment in the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence action cop series at $426.5M.
As such, it was a cinch by historical standards for Adil and Bilall to put Bad Boys: Ride or Die into motion. Their m.o. on part 4: Make it fast, make it feel like a ride, and at 1 hour and 55 minutes, it’s the shortest Bad Boys ever.
We talk with the duo today on Crew Call on one-upping Tom Cruise’s aerial stunt in Bad Boys: Ride or Die on his Mummy movie (interesting as the two are attached to reboot that Universal franchise), mining the action scenes in the script, jockeying production between two strikes last summer, and getting the best improv out of Smith and Lawrence.
In addition, Adil and Bilall talk about the takeaway on Warner Bros’ unplugged Batgirl movie, and whether filmmakers can protect themselves in the future from such major studio shenanigans.
