Brookside star Dean Sullivan has urged people to 'trust their gut' and not put off going to the doctor as he opens up about his own cancer journey.
The actor, who portrayed iconic rogue Jimmy Corkhill in the soap, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018. The 68-year-old opted for radiotherapy treatment and was discharged by his consultant last year.
He first noticed something wasn't right when his toilet habits changed, and told the Liverpool Echo: "The strength of my flow when I used to go to the loo to have a pee was reduced." Dean wasn't displaying any other symptoms of prostate cancer, such as pain while urinating or frequently waking up in the night to go to the toilet - but his gut told him he should book in an appointment with his doctor. He said: "The first time I went to the doctor's surgery he said we'll just keep an eye on it and see how you go on.
It was a few weeks later, I just knew that wasn't right. When I went back I saw a doctor who specialised in prostate treatment.
