One year on from the tragic murder of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey, school friends, family members, and well-wishers from the wider community gathered to remember the "funny" and "witty" schoolgirl whose death shook the town and shocked the wider country.

The first anniversary of the teenager's death comes less than a fortnight after the classmates who committed the horrific killing in Culceth Linear Park were sentenced to life in prison for taking her life.

But at the vigil, friends and family remembered Brianna for the way she lived her life and the friendships she made, rather than the awful circumstances of her death.

Many of Brianna's friends stood in front of a packed vigil in Warrington's Old Market Square to share their memories of the transgender schoolgirl who was proud of her burgeoning identity, as well as to share in their grief and loss.
