BBC iPlayer issues 24-hour deadline warning as users lose access to shows unless they act now

People who watch BBC iPlayer have been given a 24 hour notice with the streaming service set to make a major change.In an update from the corporation, which comes into effect tomorrow (March 11), people will no longer be able to download content onto their PCs and laptops.

The BBC confirmed all Apple MacBooks and Windows 10/11 machines will be blocked from adding shows to their libraries to be viewed offline.In a post on their website, the BBC explained: "We have made the difficult decision to close the BBC iPlayer Downloads application for PC and Mac, due to the low number of people using it and the cost required to keep it going."They added: "This does not affect downloads on the BBC iPlayer mobile or tablet apps, and viewers can continue to stream programmes on BBC iPlayer on their PCs and Macs."If you have existing downloads, you will be able to watch any existing downloads until Monday April 8, 2024.
