No trams are running across Greater Manchester for several hours this morning due to a network-wide 'shutdown'. Metrolink issued a warning to would-be passengers this morning (Sunday, May 14), telling them services will be unable to operate before 9am essential works.

It means that people wanting to use the tram network will have to wait until after 10.30am to board. No dedicated bus replacement service or ticket acceptance is in place. Bus services will be running as normal. In a post on Twitter on Saturday night, Metrolink said: "Don't forget there will not be a normal service in place until 10.30am tomorrow due to a network-wide shut down." Transport for Greater Manchester said in a statement: "On Sunday morning there will be a network-wide shutdown across Metrolink, due to essential works. "No trams will operate before 9am and during this time there will be no dedicated bus replacement service or ticket acceptance in place. "Trams will begin to leave the depot at 9am, however it will not be until 10.30am before normal service is resumed as there's a lot of ground to cover. "Please be aware that the on-stop display screens and public announcement systems may also take a little time to return to normal. "Before making a journey, check the latest tram departure times on our website so that you are not waiting longer than necessary to board a service." Commercial bus services will be operating as usual, and you can find a service which suits you with TfGM's journey planner.
