A 17-year-old driver who has recently passed their driving test could face an average insurance cost of £3,075, according to new data.
That's a £1,071 increase compared to last year, when the average quote stood at £2,004, according to Compare the Market. The website compared quotes for March 2024 with those from March 2023, based on its customers' searches and the quotes generated.
The research found that average quotes are lower for new drivers who are slightly older. This year, the average premium for someone aged 22 who has just passed their test was estimated at £2,503.
For a 27-year-old newly qualified driver, the typical price was £1,986.
