Viking cruise ship worker airlifted to hospital after falling from ship

A worker has been airlifted to hospital after falling from cruise ship in the Highlands.Emergency services were called at 11am on Friday to the Viking Mars which was docked at Saltburn Pier in Invergordon following reports of an injured crewman.Two ambulances, a trauma team and an air ambulance attended and a 40-year-old man was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.No other injuries were reported.Viking which operates the ship has launched a probe into how the incident happened.

A spokesperson for Viking Cruises said: "Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with our crew member and his family. We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need at this time. "The individual was injured while our vessel was docked near Invergordon, Scotland.

He was transported by first responders to an area hospital. No other crew members or guests were involved in this incident. Our operations team is working with local officials to determine how this occurred." The Scottish Ambulance Service told STV : “We received a call today to attend an incident in Invergordon.

We dispatched two ambulances, our trauma team, an air ambulance and a critical care paramedic to the scene. “We airlifted one male patient in his 40’s to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11am on Friday, August 18 police received a report of a man having fallen from a ship at Saltburn Pier in Invergordon.
