Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Tyler Perry is expanding his deal with Netflix, adding TV series to the mix. Netflix announced Monday that it had added a multi-year, first-look series pact with Perry to the previous feature film pact he sealed in October with the streamer.

As part of the expanded relationship with Netflix, Perry is developing the 16-episode hour-long drama “Beauty in Black,” which he will write, direct and executive produce.

According to Netflix, “‘Beauty in Black’ follows two women leading very different lives. While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out and Mallory is running a successful business, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.” Angi Bones and Tony Strickland will also produce “Beauty in Black” for Tyler Perry Studios.

Perry’s deal with Netflix replaces the previous multiyear content partnership with Paramount Global that he sealed in 2017 (when the company was known as Viacom).
