Twitch will soon force DJs who monetize their sets to pay a fee to use songs in livestream sets. The online community service has entered into a partnership with record labels to institute the fees, according to a report by Engadget.
How much the DJs will have to pay is not known, but Twitch and the music purveyors will reportedly split the fees. Twitch claims it will cover more than 50%.
Twitch will also be offering a one-year subsidy to select DJs to help cover the difference between earnings and money paid to labels.
Twitch has thousands of DJs, but not all monetize their streams. Those that don’t monetize won’t have to pay any fees, at least for now.
