Giovanni Pernice will not be gracing the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor in the upcoming series, as confirmed by the BBC.The 33-year-old Italian dancer, who has been a staple on the BBC One show since making his debut in 2015, was notably absent from the recently announced professional line-up for 2024 amidst speculation about his future on the show.Pernice, hailing from Sicily and a former champion of the Italian Championships dance contest, was most recently partnered with actress Amanda Abbington.
Abbington withdrew from the competition in 2023 for "personal reasons".In a memorable 2021 season, Pernice triumphed on the Strictly stage alongside EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, marking the first time a deaf contestant claimed the coveted glitterball trophy.Despite facing accusations of "abusive or threatening behaviour", Pernice has firmly denied these claims and expressed his intention to "clear my name".While a legal team representing the complainants has indicated that the broadcaster is in the process of "evidence gathering", the BBC has yet to confirm the initiation of any formal investigation.
