Steve Wilkos is speaking out. The 59-year-old TV personality, who worked on The Jerry Springer Show as a security guard from 1994 to 2007, spoke to TMZ following the news of Jerry Springer‘s death on Thursday (April 27).

During his appearance on TMZ Live, he revealed that the two hung out about a month ago, although the TV host did not mention his pancreatic cancer diagnosis at the time. Steve says he felt that Jerry might have “been saying goodbye to me,” adding that Jerry “hugged me like he never hugged me before,” and they reminisced about their times together, which is not something they usually did. Steve added that no one had a bigger impact on his life other than his father, and credited him for his career, and even meeting his wife.

His popularity on The Jerry Springer Show led to his own The Steve Wilkos Show, which is still on air in its 16th season. Find out more about Jerry Springer‘s passing.
