St Cuthbert Wanderers came out on top in a “strange” game against Lochmaben. Saints led 3-0 and 5-1 at various stages before eventually winning 6-3.

Boss Josh Gardner said: “It was a bit of a strange day. We started the game absolutely brilliantly. In the opening first 15 minutes we were 3-0 up, then I thought we were really, really slack. “Our slackness probably should have lost us two goals but it only resulted in one. “We spoke about the slackness at half-time and raced into a 5-1 lead in the opening 15 minutes again. “Then individual errors got them their next two goals and it was 5-3. “From 5-1 up you’re thinking it could be a bit uncomfortable when it shouldn’t have been, but we kicked on and got our sixth goal and we comfortably saw it out.” There were doubles for Kane Paton and Cammy Shaw with Aaron Mooney and Jonathan Condie as Saints picked up their second win in a row.

Gardner said: “I didn’t think we were in danger of losing, it was more we made it hard for ourselves. It could have been a lot more comfortable if we’d stuck to doing the right things. “I don’t think it was what they were doing, I think we caused our own problems. “We had to get back to concentrating again – I made a couple of subs and maybe that disrupted the rhythm of the game.

We eventually got to grips with it, got a sixth and it was pretty comfortable from there.” Saints have a busy week with a game against Newton Stewart last night before they host Nithsdale Wanderers, who they thumped earlier this month.
