Scots teacher who called child attention seeker and shouted at pupils allowed to stay in profession

A Scots secondary school teacher who told one child "I am not here to wipe your a***" and shouted at pupils has been allowed to stay in the profession.Claire Sweeney was working at Uddingston Grammar School when the incidents involving first-year pupils took place.

A report by the General Teaching Council for Scotland details that on February 21, 2018, the teacher shouted at the first-year pupil, stating that she wasn't "here to wipe your a***".The same day, she was reported to have referred to a pupil as "an attention seeker with a transgender identity crisis" while in a conversation with the faculty head teacher, reports Glasgow Live.The following day, on February 22, she allegedly shouted loudly and in an angry manner at their first-year class saying "I am not vaguely interested”; “I am not interested, when will you realise that?”; and “For God’s sake, just shut up”.Sweeney admitted to the first incident and partly admitted the second and third.

She accepted that she would "occasionally raise her voice in order to take control but would not use the words attributed to her".A witness described her as "strict as a class disciplinarian and would occasionally raise her voice to bring the class under control"The three allegations were found proved by the General Teaching Council, who described her conduct as "inappropriate and unacceptable in the context of the situation which unfolded".Ms Sweeney said she was "distressed and upset to read the contents of the statements" and that she had "no idea of the impact that her teaching style had had on the children".

She added that she wished that this had been brought to her attention at the time to allow her to take appropriate steps to modify her teaching style appropriately.Sh
