Mum of Scots woman who died after choking on vomit considers legal action against care centre
dailyrecord.co.ukA mum whose daughter died after choking on her own vomit is considering legal action after complaints over her care at a respite centre were upheld by watchdogs.
Tracy Steele believes Lauren Muir, who was being cared for at The Elms in Crosshouse, Ayrshire, would still be alive if there hadn’t been delays in getting her to hospital when she fell ill in December.The 31-year-old was born with chromosomal deletion syndrome, had serious mental and physical disabilities and a history of aspiration pneumonia, where regurgitated food or fluid is inhaled into the lungs.
In August, the Care Inspectorate launched an investigation into the privately run respite centre following a series of complaints from Tracy, which were all upheld earlier this month.Tracy, 49, from Ayr, said: “It’s utterly devastating.
On one hand I’m glad the complaints were upheld so changes can be made so this never has to happen to someone else again. However, on the other hand, it just confirms my daughter wasn’t being cared for like she should have been.
