Popular ingredient for hummus recalled from supermarkets over salmonella contamination

Shoppers are being urged to return a popular ingredient that is used to create hummus after salmonella was found in the product.AB World Foods Ltd has extended its original recall for its Al’Fez Natural Tahini that has been sold at both Ocado and Morrisons.

The recall affects jar sizes 160g to 270g, with all date codes between July 2024 and December 2025.Salmonellas is a group of common bacteria that is usually spread by inadequate cooking and through cross-contamination.

Symptoms typically associated with salmonella poisoning include the likes of fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.A recall notice to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) explains that customers have been urged not to consume the product, but to return it to the store it was bought from for a full refund.

The firm has confirmed you don't need to provide a receipt to receive a refund. If bought online, customers can contact the Al’Fez customer care team on 0800 0195 617.
