A man has been jailed over a spate of 'racist and abusive' 999 calls to Greater Manchester Police. Before even getting through to police operators, the man made sexually abusive, racist and homophobic comments to BT operators on July 20, but was cut off before being connected to a police call handler.
The man - who has not been named by GMP - phoned 999 again, and this time he was put through to one of a police call handlers, said the force.
Following 'constant swearing and racist abuse' on the call, he was later arrested on suspicion of malicious communications. The following month, on Tuesday August 15, he phoned 999 again and 'continued to be racist and abusive' towards call handlers and he was arrested a second time, according to GMP.
In total, there were 'at least' nine calls all from the man 'with the same racist and abusive messages'. In one call the man told the police call handler: "I've spoken to someone British at last yeah, I've just spoken to some **** ******* who doesn't ******* understand what I was saying." The 999 operator tells him 'that's quite offensive what you're saying'.
