A supermarket has become the cheapest for grocery essentials for the 31st week in a row. Manchester Evening News has been comparing the prices between the six major supermarkets in the UK since March last year.
They include Morrisons, Lidl, ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Aldi. Between the six, Lidl has come out as the cheapest, coming in at £11.68 for the weekly bill making it £1.13 cheaper than ASDA and £1.27 cheaper than Morrisons. Join our FREE Manchester Family WhatsApp group by clicking here Items such as meat, beans, bread and coffee have seen no price change from last week however teabags and butter from Aldi, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons have seen a change.
The closest bills come between Aldi (£12.08) and Sainsbury’s (£12.07). Both supermarkets decreased items by 10p, including Aldi’s butter and Sainsbury’s teabags.
Aldi bosses have said Sainsbury’s is only cheaper as the small sample of products is part of Sainsbury’s Aldi Price Match scheme and includes one Sainsbury’s product (beans) that is around 5% smaller than the Aldi match.
