Pensioner dies after being hit by car during rush hour in Scots town

A pensioner has died after being hit by a car in Renfrew. Emergency services raced to Cambridge Road after reports that an 81-year-old man had been knocked down by a blue Ford Focus at around 8am on Tuesday.

Ambulance crews raced to the scene and the pensioner was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

Sadly, he later died from his injuries.The road was closed for around six hours to allow a crash investigation to be carried out, and police are now appealing for information.Road Policing Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw what happened to contact us as your information could be vital.“I would also ask anyone with any dash-cam or CCTV footage that could help with our investigation to get in touch.”Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0607 of Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
