A popular brewery in Stockport has received an award at a top beer festival just months after announcing its plans to close down.
Thirst Class Ale in Reddish was announced in July to be closing down at the end of the summer. Owner Richard Conway cited the cost of living for difficult trading conditions.
At the time, Richard said: “The trials of the coronavirus pandemic and the current cost of living situation have made trading conditions tough, and I’m finding it increasingly difficult to carve a living in what was already a difficult industry to begin with.” He added: “After much soul searching, I’ve decided now is the time to wind things down and start a new adventure.” Try MEN Premium for FREE by clicking here for no ads, fun puzzles and brilliant new features. As part of an annual competition for homebrewers, Stockport CAMRA recently worked with Thirst Class to help category winners in the long-running event brew their beers at a commercial brewery.
Howard Crook, of Cheadle Hulme’s Chiverton Tap Brew Club, brewed his winning 6.8% Black West Coast IPA with Richard at Thirst Class in what turned out to be the final beer mashed in before the brewery closed.
