An officer was taken to hospital last night after an 'extremely hostile' gang attacked riot police. Detectives are now investigating the shameful scenes from Auchinleck on Saturday evening after widespread disorder broke out.A senior cop blasted the ugly scenes as 'completely unacceptable' as yobs refused to disperse from the area.Shock video footage shows multiple police vans and officers on what's understood to be Sorn Road and a firework is sent arrowing towards the group of cops, eventually sparking off a force vehicle, leading to cheers from a crowd.In separate footage, riot police can be seen charging down the street with their shields creating a wall.Police said they were initially called to a report of large crowds gathering at Old Avenue but the mob refused to move on and tensions escalated.Detective inspector Louise White of Ayrshire division said: "An investigation is underway following an incident of large-scale disorder in Auchinleck on Saturday, November 25.

Officers were called to reports of a crowd gathered in Old Avenue.“The crowd moved to other addresses in the area and public order officers attended to assist when the crowd refused to disperse when requested.

Unfortunately during the incident some of those gathered became extremely hostile towards the police and one officer was struck by a firework and taken to hospital for treatment.“Police Officers have a duty to ensure the safety of everyone involved such incidents but this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.“Although the crowd later dispersed our investigation is ongoing to trace those responsible and ensure they are dealt with appropriately.
