Motherwell 'in the mix' to grab top six place, says boss

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell says Saturday’s draw with St Mirren puts his side into a position to snatch a top six Premiership finish – and backs his side to grab it.Theo Bair’s 12th goal of an impressive season in 74 minutes rescued a point for the Steelmen, cancelling out Marcus Fraser’s 18th-minute header.That left Motherwell eighth in the table, six points behind sixth-placed Dundee and five off Hibs – and both of those are next up for the Steelmen.Kettlewell’s side travel to Dens Park on Saturday and host Hibs the following weekend, with Dundee hosting Rangers in a game in hand on April 10.Kettlewell said: “What the point does is that it still keeps us in a position of trying to get top six.“Mathematically, we find ourselves six points behind, and we’ve still got Dundee to play and Hibs to play.“I’ve never shouted my mouth off about what we’re going to get, what we’re going to achieve.“But fundamentally, if you’re asking me how big a point it is, it keeps us in the mix.“It keeps us in a position where we need a few favours and a couple of things to drop our way, but that’s ultimately what we’re working towards next week.“We’re going away to Dens Park, I think we’ll need to play better than that, but I think we showed again that we can be a match for anybody in this position, even when we’re not at our best.”Kettlewell says there’s very little between themselves and St Mirren, and praised his side’s resilience to snatch what could be a vital point.He said: I think we all came here today [Saturday] expecting that type of game.“That’s the fourth time we’ve played against St Mirren this season, every game has been won by the odd goal, there’s been a draw in there.“There’s not a great deal between the sides.
