A huge project of improvement works on a Metrolink line which has been closed for weeks have passed a major hurdle this weekend.

Part of the Eccles line has been shut for four weeks since July 15. It's part of a significant track renewal project on the line, which Metrolink bosses describe as 'essential' for the safety of passengers.

The work is taking place between the Eccles and Weaste tram stops, where replacement bus services are in operation. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) says the first phase of the project is now complete.

Over the past four weeks, Eccles New Road has been closed to traffic heading westbound, between Weaste Lane and Stott Lane. Try MEN Premium for FREE by clicking here for no ads, fun puzzles and brilliant new features But with the second phase of works beginning today, that lane is back open.
