A Met Office spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News: "The top temperature in Manchester this week could be 26C on Thursday, due to a brief ridge of high pressure allowing in milder temperatures from the south.

It is only short lived though, as a cold front moves in from the west overnight on Thursday night bringing temperatures back down to around average - between 20 and 22C - from Friday and through the weekend." They added: "Looking further ahead, the weather will be less unsettled than it has of late, but no signs of a prolonged hot and dry spell." Today's forecast (Monday, August 7) predicts highs of 18C, with wall-to-wall sunshine until around 9pm.
