Martin Lewis urged older women to look out for a State Pension back payment letter worth £5,000 on Tuesday. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is teaming up with HMRC to identify pensioners who may have been underpaid, with an estimated total of £1.3 billion owed to around 210,000 people.

However, the DWP can't start fixing these cases until HMRC sorts out the affected National Insurance records. That's why it's crucial not to ignore the letter.

Martin warned viewers on The Money Show Live on ITV: "This is important. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is sending letters to hundreds of thousands of people over 65, 66 and older.

Do not bin them. They are not scams, this is crucial." "The letter will be titled, 'You may be eligible for Home Responsibilities Protection', it's mainly for women and it can be worth thousands of pounds, or in some cases tens of thousands of pounds.
