The way to bag the saving is via the website Approved Food, which has grown in popularity after Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert emails let people know it was somewhere to get "Chocolate for 9p, Heinz Hoops for 30p, pasta sauce for 45p & more - via a 10% off code for already reduced, past 'best before' food".
It might sound too good to be true but of course there is a catch - products bought via the site are at, near or past its best before date.
It's important to note that a best before date is not the same thing as a use-by date. Instead it's an indicator that the quality of the product may have started to change.
