Manchester United coach Darren Fletcher has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association [FA] over his actions towards the match officials during last Saturday's 2-1 win over Brentford at Old Trafford.

Referee Samuel Barrott, who had never previously officiated a United fixture, was at the centre of controversy right at the end of the first half after Matthijs de Ligt was instructed to leave the field of play due to an earlier head injury.

Blood was visible on the side of De Ligt's face and Barrott instructed him to leave the pitch and receive medical attention for a second time.

He had suffered the injury when his head had collided with the knee of Brentford striker Kevin Schade earlier in first half.
