There will be NO big Christmas Lights Switch-on event in Manchester for 2023 - despite the council vowing last year that it would return after the disappointment of the plug pulled in 2022.
Council bosses are yet again blaming "no safe or suitable location" in the city centre for the event. For decades it has been a tradition for thousands of people to head into the city for the big free live festive countdown show to celebrate the Christmas lights being lit.
But it hasn't happened since 2019, initially due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Families had hoped it would return last year - but the council blamed the amount of construction work taking place across the city then, as they are doing now.
That includes at the traditional location for the switch-on outside the Town Hall on Albert Square which remains closed off for construction works.
