Steven Naismith has played down interest in Hearts' hero Lawrence Shankland as he gushed about the striker - but refused to commit to a timeline over new contract talks.

The Scotland forward netted in either half against St Mirren to make it 10 goals in 11 games for the Jambos and 15 for the season at club level - with Hearts managing their sixth win in eight league games to tighten their grip on third spot in the table.

But with the January window fast-approaching speculation has only intensified over a potential move for the captain after an impressive campaign - with former Hearts coach Lee McCulloch suggesting Shankland could have his "head turned" by Rangers next month.

But Tynecastle boss Naismith attempted to cool the speculation over the talisman. He told BBC Sportsound when asked Shankland attracting attention from other clubs: "The individual is doing something right and the club is dong something right when you have a player who is scoring as frequently as Shanks is.
