Kevin van Veen deserves the plaudits, but so do Motherwell as a team, says boss

Stuart Kettlewell expects striker Kevin van Veen to be recognised for his blistering form this season, but also wants recognition for what Motherwell have done as a team since he took over.The Steelmen were languishing near the bottom of the Premiership, struggling for points and form, but five wins and a draw from seven games has rocketed the Fir Park club up to eighth in the table, three points behind Livingston, who they swept aside 3-0 at Fir Park yesterday.Dutchman van Veen bagged a double and was denied a hat-trick by a VAR call, but the 31-year-old has netted 22 goals this season, and seven of those have come in his last four games.“I know Kevin, he just wants to do the best he possibly can in every single game, and keep chipping in with goals,” said Kettlewell.“Kev is disappointed that he didn’t get his hat-trick, and that’s a brilliant example for young players to see that continued motivation from a guy at 31, soon to be 32 or whatever he is.“I think he will be recognised by many throughout the country for the work he’s doing, but I think what’s important for me is that the team is being recognised for what they’ve done over the last period of time.“Certainly his team-mates have helped Kev get to the point that he is at just now, but if you ask him he will say he think he can go beyond the 22 goals that he’s scored at this point.“As soon as I walked in the door I knew I had to get the best out of a guy that can put the ball in the back of the net, in the fashion that he does.“He scores all different types of goals, we look at Easter Road last week, the couple he gets today – he provides all of that for us, but we need to be functioning as a team to make sure we’re getting him in good areas.”Kettlewell says
