Every Saturday morning, thousands of people lace up their running shoes and set out on parkrun routes across the country. The free 5k runs have grown in popularity in recent years and now form an integral part of people's weekend routines.

People are encouraged to join what's described by organisers as a "positive, welcoming and inclusive experience". There is no time limit, no one finishes 'last' and everyone is able to join, whether they run, jog, walk, spectate or volunteer.

With more than 20 venues across Greater Manchester, there is a variety of flat and hilly routes to choose from. Each parkrun is three miles or five km long and runners - or walkers - or all paces and abilities are welcome to take part. It's totally free.
