Hurricane Lee aftermath sparks Scotland two-day rain warning for flooding and travel chaos

The remnants of Hurricane Lee are hitting Scotland today in a deluge of rain that could bring flooding and travel delays.Hurricane Lee, which made landfall in New England and Canada on Saturday, has travelled across the Atlantic to lash the UK with heavy rain this week.

Whilst it is no longer a hurricane, the powerful storm could unleash a deluge of rainfall up to 60mm.The Met Office's rain warning for 'heavy and persistent' showers, which starts 6pm on Tuesday, that is concentrated in two areas - Stirling, Perth and the Highlands in addition to the Borders and Strathclyde.The warning extends overnight through to Wednesday morning in what the Met Office calls a "turn to autumnal weather".

The heaviest rainfall from the tail end of Hurricane Lee is set for parts of Wales and northwest England.Moving into the rest of the week, the Met Office says heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected in places on Thursday and Friday.

David Oliver, deputy chief forecaster with the Met Office, said: "Although the forecast contains the potential for further thundery showers later in the week, these are not expected to be of the magnitude of those seen over the weekend, but some localised impacts should be expected."When: Tuesday 6pm to Wednesday 8amThe Met Office warning reads: "Heavy rain may lead to some flooding and disruption to travel."Outbreaks of rain will become persistent and heavy at times on Tuesday evening and overnight.
