Heroic man stabbed trying to save children in brutal Southport attack 'saddened he couldn't do more'

A heroic man who was stabbed as he tried to save the lives of innocent children during the horror knife attack in Southport has said he was 'saddened' he couldn't do more to protect them.

Three girls – Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, were fatally stabbed in the incident at the Taylor Swift-themed dance party.

Eight other children suffered knife wounds – five of whom are in a critical condition. Jonathan Hayes, 63, who runs a business next door to the studio was left in a critical condition after being stabbed in the leg trying to bravely intervene and has since undergone major surgery, the BBC reports. Eight children, Mr Hayes and one other adult were also injured, with several in critical condition. He told the broadcaster: “Some would say confronting a guy wielding a hunting knife is utter madness”.
