Hero Lanarkshire teens praised for saving life of man in frozen canal

Two heroic Lanarkshire teenagers have received bravery awards after helping to save the life of a man and his pet dog who fell into a frozen waterway.

Emily Deas and Lauren Campbell were this week honoured for their quick thinking in calling 999 and gaining vital help after hearing desperate cries for help as they walked alongside the Monkland Canal in December.

They calmly directed emergency services to the spot in Coatbridge, with fire and rescue crews saying they “undoubtedly helped save a life” – and even managed to encourage the dog off the ice to safety on the waterside pathway.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
