Financial help for families worried about money ahead of the festive season
dailyrecord.co.ukData from Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) shows that the charity network has helped more than 23,000 families at risk from poverty in the past year.
The Citizens Advice network unlocked £142 million for people across Great Britain in 2022 through unclaimed social security payments, employment entitlements and other benefits in kind - with some clients around £3,700 better off.
The Scottish Government has identified several groups particularly vulnerable to child poverty, including single-parent families, families with an adult or child with a health condition or disability, families with a child under one-year-old, minority ethnic families, larger families (defined as having three or more children), and families where the mother is under-25.
Between August 2022 and July 2023 the CAB network helped 23,094 unique families in this group, an increase from 22,768 the previous year.
