ITV Coronation Street star dies following 60-year acting career

ITV Coronation Street actress Joan Savage has sadly died at the age of 89. The actress had a successful career spanning 60 years, also known for her role in The Arthur Haynes Show and for appearing in an episode of hit sitcom Dad’s Army.The 89-year-old died earlier this month according to reports in the Mirror, although no cause of death has yet been revealed.

Her star-studded career saw her tackle a range of iconic performances including riding elephants and roller-skating.Joan, who starred as dancer Celeste Pickersgill during her stint on the cobbles, was partnered alongside Norris Cole in a competition at Blackpool's Tower Ballroom on the popular ITV soap as she returned to her Northern roots which she 'relished'.She also performed a range of song and dance numbers, noted for her appearance on the iconic Mr Ronnie Taylor’s Variety Fanfare on BBC Radio as well as touring as the leading lady in a George and Alfred Black revue called Music and Madness.During the tour Joan first met fellow performer Ken Morris and the pair later tied the knot in Blackpool in 1955 and became a double act as they soon established themselves as household names appearing on adverts and big shows as a duo.They starred in Hi Summer, The Black and White Minstrel Show, The Jack Jackson Show and The Arthur Haynes Show - whilst Joan also continued her solo career where she recorded copies of popular love songs as well as comedy and impressions.The acting star gave birth to her daughter Kelly Reynolds in March 1960.
