In fact, he wasn't the second or third favourite to take on the role - but thankfully Del Boy eventually landed in the hands of Jason.
It's been nearly 20 years since the last ever Only Fools episode broadcast on BBC One, ending the actor's stint on the show, but Del Boy is still widely considered one of the greatest comedy characters in the history of television.
