Dumfries tool hire business to close after failing to find new owners

A family-run Dumfries business is calling it a day after not being able to find new owners. Galloway Tool Hire has been running for more than 45 years on the Heathhall Industrial Estate and the current owners have unsuccessfully had it up for sale.

Friday marked the last day for taking any further machines in for repair or servicing – with the exception of iMows and Automowers.

Trading will cease from Unit 181, Hurricane Road, on the Heathhall Industrial Estate on Friday, October 13. A statement from the company said: “It is with heavy hearts that we have made the decision to close our business which we have owned for over 16 years now – and has been running for over 45 years – on Heathhall Industrial Estate. “Our business has been up for sale for over two years and, although we have had interest from buyers, the business has not sold. “We have survived break-ins, attempted break-ins, theft, and fire destroying our previous premises (four years ago now).” It added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff and our many customers for your support over the years – we have made many friends through operating our business, and we wish you all well for the future. “We would also like to personally thank Simon Hodgson, owner of Heathhall Business Centre – he looked after us particularly well after the fire and ensured we could continue to operate with us taking over new premises within six weeks of the devastating fire. “There is, however, some good news – we will be continuing to sell, install, service and repair Robotic Mowers – this will be mobile based as we are vacating our Heathhall shop unit.” In the meantime, the owners said that all hire stock, spare parts and accessories must go and anyone
